Street Scene San Miguel

I look for real estate online. I know it sounds crazy but I walk the streets on Google Maps.
San Miguel was google mapped in 2009.
I checked out a house on Calle de Loreto and they have been updated with new video from 2012.
A lot has changed in five years.
I am always impressed with how clean San Miguel is and how I can "walk" these streets and see something new every time.
Looks beautiful even in a screen shot.

Red, Orange, and Green

Summer is fading,
re-visiting in spurts and heat waves and the peppers are almost gone.
What to do with the last harvests?

Dulces de Limón

Mexican limes are juicy and great to bake with.
When it finally cooled down last night, I baked these powdered sugar lime cookies with a little zest. They are perfect in the heat of the day with ice cold milk.
A sweet yet tart pick me up!
By night my Trinitate demi glass holds tequila...by day milk!
I also use my bread plates to serve desserts or appetizers.
These are new from their line Vajilla Provencal.
I mix and match with my Vajilla Cantini set.

Atontonilco

A short cab ride from San Miguel is Santuario de Atontonilco. A beautiful church dubbed The Sistine Chapel of Mexico by numerous travel guides. A trip there was a small excursion in which to be humbled by the beauty of the church, the deliciousness of homemade gorditas and the sweetness of children.

The white of the church next to the blue of the sky is dazzling.

Ceiling and wall frescos are intricate.

Looks humble but oh soooo good.

 Blue corn tortillas.

She was modeling a bracelet for me.

He was hiding from me in the small gift shop next to the church.

San Miguel Leather

Interesting shapes, rich color and fine craftmanship.
Hard to choose...still thinking about the hat.

We bought all of these cuffs at 50 pesos each.
They go with everything.
Cute store on Loreto, one block up from the
Mercado de Artesanías.

I'm loving this purse.
Perfect color and size.

San Miguel Spring

Viernes de Dolores

Everyone, including this statue, could use a few good stylists. They are getting her ready to be part of the celebrations of Viernes de Dolores on the last Friday of lent in San Miguel.

Main elements of the altars are:
Altar cloths and white flowers: Mary’s purity
Purple cloak: pain and penitence
Bitter oranges: the Virgin’s sorrow. These oranges are painted gold in order to recall the joy of the resurrection.
Fresh chamomile: its colors represent humility (green) and beauty in body and soul (yellow).
Sprouting wheat: represents Christ as Eucharistic bread
Ice cream, flavored water and pumpkin candies: the Virgin’s sweet tears

Beautiful Bed at Mixta

I just want to crawl in.
Nights get a little chilly.
Keep warm!

Which came first...

Galina hermosa
For me, that question is easy to answer. We have had chickens since my children were babies. They learned to count while gathering the eggs--and subtract if they all didn't make it from the coop to the house!
Vintage mini casserole,Trinitate sipping glass and bread plate
Eggs are so versatile. So many ways to eat them. My favorite is Huevos Rancheros. I poach the eggs with a squeeze of lime, serve them on top of frijoles, shredded cabbage, a little queso, fresh cilantro, and of course salsa. Mmmmmmmmmmmm

Cat nap

Just duck in when the rain comes. Grab a soft blanket, and your favorite snuggle. Mine is my old cat.

Guests for dinner?

Set the table early. Marinate the meat, make the salad, dip the strawberries in chocolate, and then you should always make sure the tequila is exactly right. One little perfect shot with a squeeze of lime. You'll be relaxed and have a smile on your face when your guests arrive.

Desayuno

Sweet tooth? Try rice pudding with fruit. Blueberries and grapes are my favorite. Trinitate sipping glasses are perfect for fresh squeezed tangerine juice.

Feeling Frazzled?

Organize a cabinet.

Just one.
Close the door.
Do something else.
Come back.
Open the door.
Admire.

Feeling flu(y)?

Try white tea and dark chocolate.
If it's the only smile of the day at least that's something.

Let it be

"When I find myself in times of trouble
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom
Let it be"
                                                                 -McCartney/Lennon

She comes in all forms to many different people.
I see her in beach stones.

Sometimes as Mary

Sometimes as Guadalupe
